Le but de l'association est de jouer un rôle prépondérant dans l'hébergement, l'accompagnement et la prestation de soins aux personnes âgées; de promouvoir les compétences internes et externes, afin de répondre aux besoins de prise en charges des résidants et de leurs proches; de défendre, dans la planification politique en faveur des personnes âgées, les intérêts des membres devant les instances politiques et administratives, les assureurs et les groupements partenaires; de sauvegarder et renforcer l'indépendance des institutions des membres ; de porter une responsabilité publique et de veiller à une bonne pratique professionnelle; d'établir une politique commune et coordonnée; de promouvoir la coordination cantonale et intercantonale en faveur d'une main-d'œuvre dotée de qualifications couvrant les besoins des institutions des membres; de rapporter aux membres des prestations qui répondent à la législation, aux statuts et aux standards de qualité; de garantir la pérennité de l'équilibre entre qualité et coût dans les institutions des membres.
