La Société a pour but d'aménager et d'exploiter les forces hydrauliques des eaux du bassin de la Lienne et des eaux des bassins voisins et de répartir l'énergie électrique produite entre les actionnaires. La Société peut aliéner des installations non nécessaires à l'exploitation se trouvant en sa propriété. Les lignes électriques propriété de Lienne mais également utilisées par les GRD peuvent être vendues. Les champs correspondants sont assimilés aux lignes. Lienne peut en outre, acheter et vendre de l'énergie ou de l'eau. Les contrats d'affermage en vigueur au 1er janvier 2024 ne peuvent pas être aliénés.
